Staffing policies are in place to ensure that the organization can set a culture pattern and hence it consists of not a single set of policies but multiple policies as it is about people and the organization would like to have a standard culture setup throughout the organization. The multiple set of policies ensure that all aspects are covered and the right culture aspect is dissipated to the grass - root level. The ethnocentric, polycentric and geocentric staffing policies define the culture of the organization. There are multiple sets of policies between these broad classifications.

Expatriation is when an employee is transferred out of the home country to another country. The challenges associated with the expatriation are as follows –

1. Global mobility concepts lead to acceptability challenges for the expatriate and the onshore team.
2. Social challenges – General country’s culture challenges and the integration of the expatriate
3. Country challenges related to weather and geographic conditions
4. Family pressure if the expatriate relocates with the family

The strategy to ensure smooth expatriation is as follows –

1. Have a policy for integration
2. Have a mentor or shadowing concept to improve transition
3. Have defined policies and provide the right expectations
4. Provide a mechanism for resolution for certain unforeseen issues

Hence the above strategies would require a standard procedure but the mechanism for issue to issue resolution will also call for certain amount of adaption and this will ensure proper transition of expatriates.
