Question: Why do you think Elizabeth Bouvia didn't kill herself? How is her case different from Larry McAfee's?
I need the answer to be at lease 14 sentences.
the article that we have to ready to answer this question is : When Suicide Prevention Becomes Brutality: The Case of Elizabeth Bouvia by GEORGE J. ANNAS.
Thank you very much.
Elizabeth wanted to get relief from the suffering of disability. She had no interest to live. She would hate it to be dependent on others. Therefore she appealed to geant her to commit suicide. But court rejected her appeal. It would be a bad message to the other dusable person. Beaides, her planned suicide would cause a mental pressure to the hispital staff.
But the case of Larry is different. She wanted to live with the facility of the disability. She appealed to turn off the ventilator. She appealed for the right of painless death. She wanted to the right of disability. She had desire to live. But Elizabeth wanted to commit suicide. It can never be ethically supported.
