Answer:- According to the modern concept,

Oxidation is the process in which an atom or ion loses one or more electrons. And, reduction is the process in which an atom or ion gains one or more electrons.

Electron losing species is called reducing agent. While, electron accepting species is called oxidising agent.

In the reaction,

glucose + O2 CO2 + H2O + ATP + heat

glucose molecule loses electrons to form CO2 , that is , glucose is oxidised while O2 is reduced to form H2O by accepting electrons.
