After cutting plasmids, we will not want to use all of the fragments. How is a gel extraction used to do this?
Ans. During the genetic engineering process, we will clone a foreign gene into the vector like plasmid and then put the plasmid into a suitable host for the multiplication.
Before doing this, the genome of the organism that has the gene of interest is cut into a large of fragment . But we want to seprate these fragments, so as to distinguish the gene of intersect which we want to clone. So they are separated by a process that is known as the gel electrophoresis. In this process the gel extraction is used . The gel extraction is used as the medium through which the fragments of the DNA are moved. Based on the size of the fragment, the got separated by applying the electric current. This process is called as the gel electrophoresis. For this purpose, gel extraction is used.
