6. Organisms living in cold regions generally has cell membranes made up of unsaturated lipids. It is because in colder areas, the cell membranes are needed to be more fluidic or less stiff. The unsaturated fatty acids in glycerophospholipids introduces kinks which prevents the tight packing of phospholipids and thus causes the membrane to be more fluidic. Thus, it allows the better survival of organisms living in colder areas.
