A thick-walled steel cylinder with internal diameter = 16 mm and external diameter = 24 mm is subjected to a gradually increasing internal pressure P.
I. Using accurate formulation, determine the value
of P and sketch the distribution of radial, tangential and maximum
shear stresses when:
a. The material of the cylinder first commences to
yield.
b. Yielding progressed to mid-depth of the cylinder
wall (at D= 20 mm ).
c. The material of the cylinder suffers complete
collapse (fully plastic).
II. Compare the results obtained from part I (a, b and
c) with those obtained when a linear stress distribution throughout
the wall thickness is assumed.
III. Assuming linear stress distribution, calculate and
sketch the residual stress distribution, giving all values of
significant stresses, when the acting pressure in part II-b (
yielding to D= 20 mm )is applied and then removed.
The yield strength of the material is 600 MPa.
Please provide the full equations and the right answers and I also provide the right final answers to you.
