Electrostatic potential: is the potential energy of a proton at a particular location near a molecule. The electrical potential energy is the work done to bring a positive charge from infinity to a point opposite to electric field.

Acid strength: It is the tendency of an acid (HA) to dissociate into a proton, H+, and it's conjugate base A−

There exists a direct correlation between electrostatic potential and acid strength. As pKa decreases (acid strength increases), the electrostatic potential increases. A correlation between electrostatic potential and acid strength happens as the acid (HA) being a proton donor, forms H+ and A- when dissociated. The lower the pKa the stronger the acid , the more the dissociation so electrostatic potential increases. Electrostatic potential depends on the charge of the solution and higher dissociation causes more number of charges.
