(a) Australopithecus africanus is an early ape-form species to be classified as hominin (modern humans)

(b)The foramen magnum helps to balance the mass of the head above the vertebrae.In chimpanzee it's posterioly oriented but in A.africanus it's anteriorly inclined.

(c)Homo erectus looks more similar to humans.It's considered as an intermediate stage of evolution between chimplike ancestor and modern Homo sapiens.

(d)In Homo erectus the foramen magnum is anteriorly placed.The foramen is closer to the middle of the skull.
