Which medications may be contributing for ED? Explain this effect. Which of medications are probably not causing problem with ED? Are there any non-pharmacologic factors that may be causing ED?

ED(erectile dysfunction) in the male is mostly affected by the drugs which are prescribed or over the counter medications. The common drugs which causes ED are as follows:

# antihypertensive and diuretics eg: Hydrochlorothiazide, Nifedipine.

# antidepressants, anti anxiolytics and anti convulsants like Fluxetines, Amoxipine, Clorazepate, Epson.

# antihistamines such as Dimehydrinate, diphenhydramine.

# NSAID's like Indocin

# Antiarrhythmics like Norpace

# muscle relaxants such as Norflex

# anti neoplastic drugs like busulfan

The effect is that though these above drugs treat a condition of the patient they also affect man's hormones, nerves or blood circulation which results in ED or the clients would be at risk of ED.

The medications which probably doesn't affect ED are

# alpha blockers like flomax

# calcium channel blockers like cardizem

#ACE inhibitors like Vasotec

#Angiotensin II receptor blockers (ARBs).

The non pharmacological factors which affects ED are

# endocrine factors like diabetes

# neurological or nerve disorders such as alzhiemers, multiple sclerosis, stroke.

# cardiac problems such as atherosclerosis and hypertension.

# life style factors such as alcohol abuse or substance abuse.

# emotional disturbances like depression, anxiety.
