1) What one piece of the law were you the most unfamiliar with?

Ans: Licensure without examination

Licensed Practical Nurse and Registered Nurse can obtain a license without examination if the applicant has been duly licensed or registered as a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse under the laws of another state, territory, the District of Columbia or a foreign country, if such applicant meets the qualification required for licensing as Registered Nurse in Oklahoma.

2) Were there any surprises to you in this document?

Ans: Temporary Licenses

The Oklahoma Board Of Nursing may issue temporary licenses to nurses from other states upon proper application stating the purpose of said licenses for not more than 90 days. It can be reviewed by the Board but shall not extend more than one year.

3) If a nurse from another state wanted to work in Oklahoma, what would you tell about Nursing Practice Act?

  • A written application along with fees established by Board must be submitted.
  • There are provisions to get licensed with or without examination upon meeting requirements by the Board.
  • One can obtain temporary license by submitting proper application stating the purpose of license.
  • The applicant must meet the educational qualifications established by the Board for each category.
  • Criminal history record must be submitted.
  • Person who is violating any of the provisions of the act shall be guilty and punishable by a fine of not less than One Hundred Dollars
