Ans) In Val Marie, Ken meets up with the reporter and crew from the CBC. Concerned about coming across as an "environmental lunatic," Ken downplays his environmentalism and talks more about being "a young man on a journey". Later, he feels disgusted with himself "for squandering an opportunity to say something true and useful. Back out on the prairie, Ken writes about the wind, the open sky, and the beautiful landscapes, emphasizing the infinite and the almost spiritual nature of his experience. He then crosses the border into Montana where people are more concerned about trespassing and private property than they are in Canada. He writes about the concepts of common lands in different countries and how the United States is different from many other Western countries in this regard. He also recounts some well-known incidents in which trespassers were injured or killed in it.
