In inorganic qualitative analysis, first we need to identify the cation to which group it belongs.

Out of two ions present in the solution, Ag​​​+ is Group I cation, Fe​​​​​3+ is a Group III cation.

First given solution containing silver and Ferric ions is treated with dilute HCl. Silver ions precipitated as it's chloride. Ferric ions remain in the solution. It is due to Solubility product of AgCl is greater than its ionic product. Where as for ferric ion Solubility product is greater than its ionic product.

When HCl is added, all the silver ions are precipitated.

Hence HCl is the answer.
