Qualitative research designs focus on how the reliability of the said design and methods that will affect the credibility and significance of the findings and their overall effectiveness in the clinical setting. There are 3 different criteria to appraise qualitative studies. This consists of the identifying the components of the qualitative research process in studies, determining study strengths and weaknesses, and evaluating the trustworthiness, and evaluating the trustworthiness and meaning of study findings. (Burns et at, 2015). In comparison, quantitative research data is obtained through a variety of different methods. This may include statistical or numerical analysis that is collected via surveys, questioners, and polls. By appraising the data collection methods, the nurse can determine if the findings have significant validity and reliability to use the findings in clinical practice (Schmidt, 2015). This suggests that the most important characteristic to gather is for the data to be valid and credible because this determines the significance of the study, both qualitative and quantitative. Without any significance to the study, there would be no meaning behind it or be simply left uninterpretable. That is why that validity and credibility are the most important characteristics.

Answer #1

This critique reviews the importance of validity and credibility in qualitative research designs. The critique used three criteria to analyze the qualitative research such as components of the qualitative research, strength, and weakness of the qualitative research, and evaluation and meaning of research findings. Unlike quantitative research, qualitative research cannot determine the findings of the data in clinical practice. Thus the qualitative research provides invaluable perspective in the clinical practice.
