Answer #1
Concepts and reason

In organic chemistry, organic compounds are classified into two types. They are saturated and unsaturated. The saturated organic compounds contain only single (sigma) bonds, whereas the unsaturated organic compounds contain one or more carbon–carbon double bonds or carbon–carbon triple bonds. The unsaturated organic compounds are further classified as conjugated or non-conjugated.

Fundamentals

Conjugated compounds are those that contain two or more carbon–carbon multiple bonds (C C
, double bonds or C C
, triple bonds) separated by a carbon–carbon single bond.

Examples:

multiple bonds are seperated by a single bond

Conjugated diene is an organic compound that contains two carbon–carbon double bonds separated by a carbon–carbon single bond.

Examples:

two double bonds seperated by a single bond

Conjugated triene is an organic compound that contains three conjugated carbon–carbon double bonds.

Example:

three double bonds seperated by a single bond.

Non-conjugated compounds in which carbon–carbon multiple bonds are separated by one or more carbon (sp
hybridized) atoms.

Examples:

multiple bonds are seperated by two or more carbon atoms

Cumulated diene contains adjacent double bonds. The double bonds are shared by a single common carbon (sp hybridized) atom.

Example:

Н
Н
adjacent double bonds shared by 1 carbon.
I
I

(a)

Two carbon–carbon multiple bonds are separated by one carbon–carbon single bond. So, it is a conjugated compound.

(b)

Three carbon–carbon double bonds are found in the above compound, which is having alternating carbon–carbon single and double bonds. So, it is a conjugated triene.

(c)

C-

The triple bonds are separated by more than one carbon–carbon single bonds. Therefore, it is non-conjugated.

(d)

One carbon–carbon double and one carbon–oxygen double bonds are separated by one carbon– carbon single bond. Therefore, it is conjugated.
