While going from reactants to products in a chemical reaction, an intermediate is a substance that is formed in the middle step of a reaction. It is a short-lived molecule. The state before the formation of a new molecule containing partial bonds is known as the transition state. The transition state analogs have a structure similar to that of the transition state of a substrate.
