What follows is a blueprint for success in goal setting. Step 1: Rocket Fuel For Your Goals: How do you identify intense desire and passion? What are you passionate about? Develop a DESIRE to achieve the goal. The desire must be intense. How do you intensify desire? Step 2: Write Them Down To Tie Them Up: Write a personal, educational, and career goal. Work on each goal separately, one at a time, and follow the steps. Once it goes into writing it becomes substantial and starts etching itself into your subconscious. Step 3: By Pass Resistance Gather Assistance: List at least three obstacles for each goal and at least three people and/or organizations that can help you achieve each goal. IDENTIFY 1) the obstacles you will need to overcome, 2) the help you will need to acquire, eg. knowledge, people, organizations. In each case write them out in a clear list and analyze them. Step 4: Use Deadlines as Lifelines: DEADLINE your goal. Analyze where you are now in relation to the goal and then measure how long you will reasonably need to complete the goal. Then set the latest outside date. Give each goal a deadline. Step 5: Planning- Looking Ahead To Get Started: Take all the details of steps 3 and 4 and make a PLAN. List all the activities and prioritize them. Rewrite the list. optimize it, perfect it. Develop an action plan for each goal. This is usually the most difficult step of goal setting, but most critical. Give this step some thought. Step 6: Mental Picture- Put An MGM Studio In Your Head: This is SO IMPORTANT. Get a clear MENTAL PICTURE of the goal already accomplished. Make the mental image crystal clear, vivid in the mind's eye. Play that picture over and over in your mind. You need to visualize reaching your goal. How do you feel? What is different about you? What will others notice about you? Step 7: The Remaining 90 % - Sheer Persistence: Rate your ability to persist on a scale from 1 to 10, with 1 being low ability and 10 belng a high ability. Explain your score. Back your plan with PERSISTENCE and resolve. Never, never, never give up even when you hit setbacks.

Step 1:- My desire is to achieve success in the field of Lean management. I realized the desire when I experienced the benefits of Lean implementation. The thought of revolutionizing the industry to perform better with least resources and minimize wastage move towards perfection is very challenging and interesting to me. This is how one should be able to identify his/her desire. The want to achieve and the self-motivation to move ahead in the path is the most important aspect of reaching the goal.

Step 2:- My personal goal is to have a outstation vacation every year with my family. Educational goal comprises of attaining Master Black Belt certification in Six Sigma and Lean Management. Professional goal is to increase my income from XX to XX within next 5 years.

Step 3:- Obstacles for Personal goal - Financial status, Work schedules, Destination choices. Factors to help overcome these obstacles are - We ourselves, Travel agents, family & friends.

Obstacles for Educational goal - Mental capability, physical capability, willingness. Factors to help overcome these obstacles are - Self, Motivation

Obstacles for Professional goal - Difficulties in work, Office politics, Personal resistance. Factors to help overcome these obstacles are - Seniors, Colleagues, Company policies.

Step 4:- Each goals are to be analyzed and time line should be set.

Step 5:- Make a future state picture on accomplishing the goals. Personal goal achievement would give personal stability, family time and improved quality of life. Educational goal achievement would boost self-confidence and knowledge. While, achieving professional goal would give financial stability and social status.
