Schools take a more traditional purpose in passing on of culture. School is a part of society, teacher, learner, and parents are very much drawn from same unequal and stratified society. Inevitably schools are not always successful in enabling pupils to acquire powerful knowledge, It is also true that schools are more successful with some pupils than others. The success of pupils is highly dependent on the culture that they bring to school. For children from disadvantaged homes, active participation in school may be the only opportunity that they have to acquire powerful knowledge and be able to move, intellectually at least, beyond their local and the particular circumstances.
