WHAT IS SERVANT LEADERSHIP AND WHY IT MAKE SENSE? Servant leadership is a tried and tested leadership approach that is creating a shift from managing for results to designing environments that creating results. The phrase servant leadership was coined by Robert Greenleaf in the 1970s. It is a form of leadership that replaces self-interest with service to others. It is about influence rather than power; control focusing on other strengths rather than weaknesses; listening rather than giving orders and long-range benefits rather than short-term profits. Servant leadership demonstrate a range of nine key attributes. The good news is that all of this can be developed a) listening b) self-awareness c) foresight d) empathy e) persuasion f) stewardship g) healing h) conceptualization and i) building a sense of community.

ISSUES: a) They can become so immersed in introspection and encouraging employees to look inside for meaning to their work that the company's bottom line can suffer. It can be solved by making the employees to looks forward with an eye to growing the business in order to stay viable.

b) The managers physical and emotional action can lead to relationships that are too dependent on emotions to become productive. Mature them to make decisions and take responsibility for themselves.

c) Bullying is another major possible problem. When a leader is so dedicated to his employees, it can make him a target for manipulators. This practices should not be encouraged by serving him but by paying it forward to others.

d) Lack of motivation develops when their manager always on their side to feed them with work which negatively affects the progress of employees on their workplace. Also, makes them lazy so that they and the company do not experience the growth necessary to keep a small company in business.

To conclude, servant leadership is about transformation and future focus and adopting its leadership principles complements agile ways of working really well. The work in the workplace has changed drastically. Our leaders need to change too in order to continue to maximize delivery and customer value. Our leaders need to demonstrate an ability to adapt. Emphasizing the importance of embracing and applying the knowledge at an individual and team level, new demands are being made of leaders at all levels.
