Reflect on your responses to the PRICA self-assessment and GENE Scale in the textbook. How does your worldview influence the level of apprehension or attitudes you feel when communicating with people from other cultures?
PRICA- Personal Report of Intellectual Communication Apprehension (PRICA)is developed to address communication apprehension in the intercultural context.
GENE- Generalized Ethnocentrism is considered as the technical name given for the view of things in which one's own group is the center of everything and all others are scaled and verified with reference to it.
HOW DOES YOUR WORLD VIEW INFLUENCE THE LEVEL OF APPREHENSION OR ATTITUDES YOU FEEL WHEN COMMUNICATING WITH PEOPLE FROM OTHER CULTURES?
Understanding each other is the successful key to intellectual communication. Understanding the barriers of other cultures are considered to be ethnocentrism, prejudice and stereotyping. According to me, it is true that people from different groups think and behave differently, follows different cultures and even communicate in a different way. When different sets of people are communicating, ethnocentrism attitudes make people from other cultures to feel that they are less valued by others. These attitudes to a set of people show they are less important or their cultures are unvalued and thus the communication end up as unpowerful or even unproductive. Moreover, ethnocentrism is not intentional but to some extent it is considered to be a positive feeling than prejudice( an illogical way of attitude towards other cultures without any prior knowledge).
