comment in the Discussion Forum: Do you agree/disagree that the identified advertisements have negative social consequences? Do you agree/disagree with the alternative strategies recommended? Can you come up with a better strategy?
The article given is very well presented and takes the readers attention towards a thing that we see daily, learn from it but never pay attention to how it is shaping our viewpoint. One example given in the article is of Gillette which shows the sexual harassment done by the men but tries to justify it by saying 'men will be men'.
I totally agree with the saying that the advertisements have negative social consequences. Though a real thought has never been given to it but now, through the given article, it can definitely be agreed on that advertisements do leave an impact on the people and we blindly follow it. One more example could be of Axe perfumes which teaches the boys that if you smell good, girls will start following you like a magnet. After seeing that ad, many boys switched to Axe perfumes in a hope to get a girl. Had they been taught that girls want reliable boys, who are respectable, caring and loving, they would have actually got a girl. But after seeing the ads, moral values are kept aside and the only thing that is promoted is looking good, smelling good and dressing up nicely.
Obviously, there is a need of finding some alternative strategies. For example, if Gillette wants to promote its razors, it should show in the ad that there are two males, one who has beard and looks homeless, and the other, who is clean shaved and clean. A girl is more proud in introducing the latter to her parents and therefore, the former guy feels the urge to shave to. Therefore, alternative strategy to show in the ads is to make advertisements which are full of moral values. Advertisements should be made in such a way that it promotes the value of the product by showing its good uses and how the use of it will make you a better person. Just showing that using a particular product will make you look "cool" should be avoided.

1. The first advertisement comes from Dove in the medium of
print. The message behind the ad was that the product would
effectively clean your skin. The target audience would be those who
have delicate skin and care very much about their appearance. My
guess is that the target audience would be young to middle-aged
women.
2. The problem with the ad is that the depicted three women
standing alongside each other depicting before and after results of
using the...
According to Robert Trivers, why are men generally larger and more physically aggressive than women? Because women are more reproductively “valuable” than men, hence competition for mates is fiercer among men Because men invest more heavily in reproduction than women Because men secrete more testosterone Trivers’ theory does not speculate on the origin of the sex difference in size and physical aggression Although some women are interested in casual sex (short-term mating), research has suggested that there are differences in...
Company Case In-N-Out Burger: Customer Value the Old-Fashioned Way In 1948, Harry and Esther Snyder opened the first In-N-Out Burger in Baldwin Park, California. It was a simple double drive-thru setup with the kitchen between two service lanes, a walk-up window, and outdoor seating. The menu consisted of burgers, shakes, soft drinks, and fries. This format was common for the time period. In fact, another burger joint that fit this same description opened up the very same year just 45...

Q: Compare the assumptions of physician-centered and
collaborative communication. How is the caregiver’s role different
in each model? How is the patient’s role different?
Answer: Physical-centered communication involves the specialists
taking control of the conversation. They decide on the topics of
discussion and when to end the process. The patient responds to the
issues raised by the caregiver and acts accordingly. On the other
hand, Collaborative communication involves a...

It is important to understand the different leadership styles employed by nursing leaders in healthcare organizations and to understand their significance on nursing practice and patient outcomes, for better or for worse. Objective: Read the articles from Nursing Standard (PDF) and Bradley University (PDF). In -250 words, formulate an opinion on the following: 1. Reflect on an occasion where you experienced ineffective leadership (doesn't have to be in the hospital). What behaviors did they display? What...

When I assumed the leadership of Heinz’s Asia/Pacific business, in 1993, the company’s revenues from that part of the world were hardly a blip—and I’d never visited most of the countries in the region. I made my first trip there soon after I took the job, and it really opened...
