What advice would you give a newly graduated nurse?
Answer:- following advice given to newly graduates:-
- At your first job, keep your eyes open and as much as you can,
your mouth closed.
- Do not participate in gossip or complaints.
- Do not call out sick excessively. It's expected the first year or
two to catch every bug going around, but unless you are actively
projecting bodily fluids, show up.
- It's better to go home sick than call in all the time. No one can
depend on you, if they are not sure you are showing up.
- Remain positive and helpful. Sometimes this will be a real
challenge.
- Show up a few minutes early every day. Come back from lunch a few
minutes early.
- If you make a mistake, admit it right away. Mistakes are
ok.
- Never go anywhere with the following in your pockets: Extra
gloves, pens, and sticky notes.
- Go the extra mile without expecting recognition for it. Wipe down
the tables after lunch, the chairs at the end of the day. Be the
one who double checks the temperature of the vaccine fridge, the
messages, etc.
- Whichever doctor you are working with, don't be afraid to ask
questions, but ask intelligent, relevant questions. No chit chat.
That may come eventually, with mutual respect, but don't assume and
don't push it. The job. The patients cone first.
- Stay off your smart phone.
