Answer #1

One can evaluate further, the findings of fourth and fifth metatarsals swelling through radiography. Radiography is often the only and the first investigation that is required for diagnosis of a fracture. Radiographs can he used for diagnosis of all types of acute fractures, established stress fractures and dislocation. However small avulsions may get missed on a radiograph. It cannot be used for the assessment of disruption of soft tissues and ligaments.

A more sensitive test than radiography is bone scanning. There is indication of a suspected acute fracture or stress fracture in case of bone scanning. It, however, can be insensitive in case of early stages of the injury. The most sensitive one is magnetic resonance imaging. It is used to assess the structure of soft tissues and injuries in the ligaments.
