In a health care setting, quality is every thing. Diversity in nursing is extremely important. The nursing is a profession which deals with human beings who comes from various cultural and ethnic groups.The diversity in this profession enables the nurses to provide care according to the needs of patient. But new generation find it lack the diversity in nursing.

Important diversity initiatives

1.Diversity by ethnicity

In nursing profession, ethnic minority nurses are under represented. This under representation builds a vacuum in providing quality health care.When a nurse can understand the ethnic variance and cultural history of a patient,trust and mutual respect has initiated easily which may ease the nurse to communicate and understand the problems of the patient. And also patient feel comfortable, improving patient satisfaction. A nurse from a culturally or ethnically isolated community only can assess and realise the actual health problems or risk factors who encounter by his or her community mates. It is really important for early diagnosis and providing quality care.

2.Diversity by gender

Traditionally, nursing is a female majority profession, that is a majority number working as nurse are females. This should be changed. Nursing is a profession to treat and allebiate patient suffering through quality care. Such a core profession should not be monopolized by a particular gender. The strength and competence of males are equally essential.

Diversity by research activities

The Qipali research in nursing is essential. Because, the health sector continuesly under stress due to emergence of rare and dreadfull diseases like communicable diseases. Another risk is arising of antimicrobial resistance. To sort out these kind of issues, quality nursing reasrch should be carried out. It will enhance the diversity of nursing care and update the irrelevant things still followed by the workforce.

Way forward

The future workforce needs to become more diverse to better meet the needs of patient population. Efforts to enhance diversity in the workforce needs to be initiated at basic level itself which equip the profession to meet any type of health challenges and render quality care to the needy.
