Topic: Leadership Initiatives for Achieving Cultural Diversity

Achieving cultural diversity within the workplace is extremely important to the growth of a company. “For organizations to value diversity and inclusion, top management must be committed to it.” Leaders of a company should take time to specifically work on “diversity and inclusion initiatives.” (DuBrin, 2015) Bill Gates struggled to follow the best practices and initiatives for achieving cultural diversity early on for Microsoft. His wife, Melinda, started working at Microsoft in 1987 and said she almost left because the culture was mostly men. Gradually, Microsoft has been changing as they are hiring more and more women. Bill Gates realizes the power diversity has in a work environment and stresses for people to ask themselves “how many women are on your team? If it’s less than two, that’s probably too few.” (Kniskern, 2017) He wants to make sure there is plenty of diversity in order to bring the best results from groups.

Even with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, culture and values are very important as they believe their employees “should reflect the rich diversity of the global populations we aim to serve – in race, ethnicity, gender, age, cultures and beliefs – and we support this diversity through all our employment practices.” (Culture and Values) Nowadays, Bill Gates is generously giving back by creating his own scholarship, The Gates Scholarship. This scholarship is awarded to minorities who are seniors in high school and plan on going to a four year college. Bill and his wife Melinda has “spent more than a billion dollars putting low-income, minority students through college.” So far, there has been nearly 20,000 people whose college tuition and expenses has been paid for in its entirety. (Pelley, 2018) Bill Gates realizes the issue that low income, minority students face today. These students may be smart enough for top ranked school in the country but the only thing holding them back is money. By offering to help pay their tuition and expenses, he realizes the potential these kids have and is making their dreams become a reality.

answer-

Cultural diversity has become the part of every business because when business are going global then people are working in companies from different religion, culture, gender, race etc. i think cultural diversity is so important for an organization like Microsoft because it is a global company which needs talent and minds from different different cultural area who can help business to grow and deal with issue like social or cultural issues. when you have people from different different culture then you have people of many talents and knowledge which only makes your business strong.

i think leader of an organization should make policy like Bill gates did to support minorities from low income who wants to get higher education and who knows the investment can rise great talent which in future work for that company who put investment like Microsoft.

Diversity when in place inspire people and leads creativity, innovation in organization, they provide insights of their culture and knowledge which leaders can use for making business decisions.
