Enteral Nutrition -
It is the process of feeding, where food or food substances directly given to a gastrointestinal tract. The asses and the tube placement is made according to the patient's condition as example - nasogastric tube(a tube inserted up to stomach via the nose), Orodeodenal tube(Tube inserted up to duodenum via mouth), and jejunostomy tube(a tube inserted to jejunum through the skin via a small incision).
This process mainly used to provide nutrition during chronic hospitalized illness, upper GI surgery, Throat diseases, to maintain the nutritional status of old age patients, etc. This process is involving some complications like Infection, constipation, diarrhea, nausea & vomiting, the problem in the absorption of nutrients, irritation at the tube placement site, regurgitation to lungs.
In this process, we can liquify and give a normal oral diet or we can give liquids in a regular interval. we can also administer medication through these feeding tubes.
