Married men have a considerable survival lead than married women.  According to the reports older men at every age are seen to be married than older women. This gender dissimilarity in marital status is increasing year by year. This higher remarriage rate of men throwback cultural standards and gender imbalances of ability and position.

The reason behind the rate of older men being married being higher was researched and found to be focusing on life expectancy and early first marriage. Older men usually remarry than older women. Older men can not be well if they are alone comparing to women who spend their life engaging in different activities like caretaking and household chores. Women set out doctors' appointments for the family but men, if they are alone, cannot be well enough to get an appointment. Older men when widowed or divorced, their relationships with other family members will not be substantial. This loneliness can be another reason for their remarriage.

The system of living in older adults is firmly bound to their marital status. When alone, women comparable to men move with their children, relatives nursing homes or to other groups. on the other hand, men will search for another partner for the rest of their lives.
