Ans) These C3/C5 convertases bind C5 efficiently and cleave it at a velocity approaching Vmax thereby switching the enzyme from C3 cleavage to production of the cytolytic C5b-9 complex.

- Each generates a C3 convertase, a serine protease that cleaves the central complement protein, C3. C3 convertase can be used to refer to the form produced in the alternative pathway (C3bBb) or the classical and lectin pathways (C4bC2a).

- C5 convertase is an enzyme belonging to a family of serine proteases that play key role in the innate immunity. It participates in the complement system ending with cell death.
