For manually recording blood pressure using a sphygmomanometer and stethoscope the brachial artery is usually used, but depending on the method used different arteries could be chosen. Different body positions will result in different heights in the column of blood from the heart to the artery used. Today we will try to answer the following question to that effect: How is the force exerted by the blood on the artery walls affected by the height of the column of blood between the heart and the artery used? In this experiment, we will be utilizing an automatic blood pressure monitor able to measure blood pressure by using the radial artery. This will streamline the process and make it easier for you to collect your data. What is your hypothesis in regards to this question? Design an experiment to test this hypothesis using the automated blood pressure monitor provided. Four different blood column heights should be investigated by your design.
