Question

K and R selected stratgeies are two types of evolutionary strategies which are used by two different type of species to survive in given environmental conditions.

Comparison of these two strategies :

R - selected species K-selected species
Produce many offspring produce less offspring
Lifespan is short , usually small size organism lifespan is long, usually large size organism
These species are weak competitors These species are strong competitors
Tedencies for immigration and emigration is high Tendicies for immigration and emigration is low
They could live in variable environment They could only live in constant and predictable environmental conditions.
High mortality rates Low mortality rates
Example include rabbits, bacteria, mice Example include elephants, tortoises

Phylogeny is the evolutionary history of a species. a) Cytochrome C is an important mitochondrial protein found in most organisms. The table below indicates the number of similarities in the amino acids found within Cytochrome C compared across five different species. Based on the data in the table, draw a phylogenetic tree that reflects the evolutionary relationships of the organisms based on the differences in their cytochrome c amino acid sequence. Based on the data, identify which species is most...
