Question

A unity feedback system is shown in Fig. 1. The closed-loop transfer function ?(?) of this system is given as ?(?)=?1?4+2?3+(?2+1)?2+?2?+?1.

  1. a) (20%) Using Routh-Hurwitz criteria, find expression (in terms of ?1 and ?2) and range of value of ?1 and ?2 such that the above system is stable.
  2. b) (4%) It is desired to achieve steady-state error of less than 0.3 with a unit ramp input. Find an additional constrain in terms of ?1 and ?2 such that the requirement for steady-state error is satisfied.
  3. c) (3%) One decided to make a guess on ?1 and fine tune ?2 until the steady-state error requirement in b) is satisfied. In the following cases (i and ii), use expressions of ?1 and ?2 to verify whether the requirement is satisfied and give the corresponding range of value of ?2. i. ?1 = 10.
  4. ii. ?1 = 150.
  5. d) (3%) Do you think the parameter tuning method in c) is efficient? Explain why or suggest another method.
