The 20 week cardio vascular training program leads to following physiological changes:

  • Reduction in heart rate. The normal heart rate is about 80 beats per minute. Heart rate becomes as low as 28-40 beats per minute in elite endurance athletes.
  • Stroke volume increases as a result of exercise. In normal people stroke volume is about 50-70ml/beat which can increase up to 130ml/beat after exercise; i.e. about 40% increase .This is because the left ventricle contracts more forcefully during exercise.
  • Increase in stroke volume further increases cardiac output.
  • As a result of exercise, blood flow starts moving towards those tissues of the body, which are in greater need of oxygen. More blood flow towards skin occurs, which promotes heat loss.
