During exercise, muscles require more oxygen to replenish ATP and released more carbon dioxide as a waste material. Therefore glycogen and glucose are the two substrate that are oxidized to produce more ATP. So, after exersining, the substrate oxidation increases . The training adaptation that have occurred in response to 16 weeks of training are muscles are more adapted to the exercise,strength of muscles increases and VO2 max also increases
