This piece of double stranded circular DNA is called a plasmid. It is and extra-chromosomal DNA that's floats around in the cytosol of prokaryotes but distinctly away from the nucleoid region. It mostly possesses genes which provides additional advantages to the organism in the given environment and can be ridden of when pressure is relieved. Plasmids are related to other genetic material as they also undergo the same process viz. replication, transcription etc and are transferred to their progeny i.e. it also inheritable.
