Question 10

The gas phase reaction 2A →B + C is carried out isothermally in a 30 dm3 well-mixed constant volume batch reactor. Pure A at an initial amount of 66.3 moles/dm3is placed into the reactor. If the rate of destruction of A is given by –rA = kCA, with k = 0.08 min-1, determine the concentration of A (in moles/dm3) after 5 minutes. Note that concentration is moles divided by volume. Express your answer to one decimal place.

Hi here is the solution for your question. I hope I could help you in future also. If anything is not clear to you please let me know before giving your valuable feedback. I would love to elaborate that. Thanks

Given:

Constant volume batch Reactor

V= 30 dm3

CA0 = 66.3 mol/dm3

First order reaction

K= 0.08 min-1

Find

CA after 5 minutes

Solution:

We will apply the mole balance on whole volume of batch Reactor.

In batch reactor there is no inflow and no outflow occurs.
