Define diversity management in detail and describe the components that have been combined to make up our present workforce diversity. Which component do you think is making the most impact on workforce diversity today? (Answer has to be close to 250 words and at least one reference cited in APA format)

Diversity can be defined as having the people from varied or differentiated backgrounds, cultures, gender ethnicity and age group. In the era of the globalization, diversity has a very critical role to lay in the success of any firm.

Diversity management can be defined as the various initiatives which are carried out by the various organizations in order to combine the people from different background in its structure by praising and valuing the differences among individuals. In other words, these are the activities or practices which are carried out in any organization which is required to help and incorporate the different lifestyle and personalities of the workforce.

The various components that combine to make up the present diverse workforce are as below:-

1.Single Parents and office going mothers – Women, parents or widows who work out of necessity or desire and have a need for a work-life balance. The various ladies or widows along with single parents who are forced to work due to some need or desire to support their livelihood and are looking to have improved work-life balance.

2. Women having their Business –Similar to the male, women are also finding it attractive to start their own business or to have business as their career option, majority of which look for business by having a better work-life balance but out of all the women, it is found that only 10% of women are promoted to the top-level due to glass ceiling

3. Race and ethnicity –This is also one of the main elements in diversity apart from gender There are many minorities, ethnic groups and racial groups who have to face stereotyping when they look to work in the organization. These people also add value to diversity as their cultural difference help the organization to create diversity.

4:- Age of manpower – The different age group has a different way of dealing with the issue, their own pattern or working and thinking. Age variation in the workforce also induces diversity.

In my opinion, race and genders are the two segments in which the people are having more participation. After the era of industrialization, females are looking to work out of the house and contribute to the economy. More and more women are now working at the managerial position and they have a better ability to manage the situation.

Another element is the race. Due to many social and political reforms, the people from a different race are provided motivation and encouragement in order to work in the organization.
