5. (a) The analgesics work by inhibiting the enzymes that synthesise prostagladins. The NSAIDs (Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) uses other peripheral and central mechanisms for their effect. The enzyme COX-2 is inhibited. This enzyme is present in the infalmmatory cells. This helps in maintaining the levels of COX-1 and COX-2 enzyme. COX-1 is a constiteunet of the normal cells. This maintainence of the levels of these two enzymes makes the analgesics work.

b. The mechanism of action of hyperalgesia involves the sensitization of nocireceptors, histamine, protons, nerve growth factors, and prostagladins.
