This occurs as a component of systemic inflammatory response and multiple system organ failure. ARDS is associated with sepsis and uncontrolled intravascular inflammation. There is direct and indirect Lung injury in case of ARDS.

Hypoperfusion is a state of shock causing insufficient supply of oxygen and nutrients to body tissues when is unchecked results in organ system failure and death.
