Answer #1

Psychology is a science. Various theories are there for the purpose of proving various facts and figures. Psychology is a well organized subject. It incorporates various elements of biology, mathematics, statistics, probability, sociology, social science, anthropology and many more.

It can be considered as the blend of different different subjects but in a well defined proportions. It is considered as the multifaceted discipline. Pseudoscience the term is suggesting itself that it is pseudo means false.

It remains based on beliefs. It is far away from scientific approaches. It does not consider scientific methods as reliable. Best example of pseudoscience is "Astrology". It is being considered as pseudo science because it has no scientific validity.

Controlled studies can also be not operated in pseudoscience. Critical thinking element also remains missing from Pseudoscience. Psychology and other scientific events can be proved wrong by adopting a definite procedure and a specific manner.

This factor remain missing with pseudoscience. Replication of same results again and again is also not possible in in pseudoscience but scientific approaches have capability to do so.

In Lectures 1 and 2, we discussed that consciousness can be approached scientifically by two approaches: (A) observing when conscious experience happens vs. not and comparing between them; (B) manipulating certain factors to create conscious and unconscious conditions for further comparison. Some researchers suggest that the use of the binocular rivalry to compare conscious and unconscious conditions (as discussed in Lecture 2) is a combination of both approaches. Discuss why this could be the case.

    2. The acceleration equation We have derived in lectures the Friedmann and fluid equations, that describe the evolution of simple cosmologies. The Friedmann equation is usually given (adopting c 1) as where a(t) is the scale factor of the universe, p is the mass (energy) density, and k is constant. (a) (5 points) The simplest (although spectacularly uninteresting) cosmology has zero mass-energy, i.e. ρ 0. Solve the Friedmann equation under this condition to obtain an expression for at(t). Describe the...
