What ethical responsibility do we as a society have to others and to the world? Use one of the following topics to make your point: war, immigration, or economic assistance. Include a theory from the readings to support your thinking.
one of the most important things about the world today is that it is stratified into various economies and tiers such as, developed, developing and underdeveloped. While people in the developed countries enjoy more access to quality food, housing, education, lifestyle etc., people in other second and third world countries suffer in poverty, unemployment and lack of facilities and infrastructure causing more inequality. However, almost all the developed countries exploited the developing and poor countries in developing themselves while causing great environmental havoc on people by depleting all the resources. Utilitarian ethics suggests that an act would be considered ethical if it maximizes benefit to maximum number of people and reduce any harm. It’s from here Peter Singer suggests in his Absolute Poverty and utilitarianism that people in the developed countries have a moral responsibility to contribute to the welfare of people in the poor countries and distance shouldn’t be an issue. The contribution that people in the developed countries would mean nothing but for those who receive, it would be everything. It would make a huge change in the lives of those people.

Given that a large portion of the world is hungry or starving, do we have a social/legal/ethical/moral responsibility to change this problem? Do you agree with philosophers who say we have clear intuitions about basic ethical values? Do you think that our intuitions point toward some objective moral facts in the world, or are they reports of something subjective?
Doing business both with and in different countries raises many ethical concerns. We all do not see things the same way. From what you have learned in this course begin a discussion on ethical concerns that global organizations need to "watch". For example, when is a "bribe" merely a common business practice and when is it unethical? Should companies produce goods in parts of the world where they know that human rights of workers are not a priority at all?...
Some propose that these concerns could be alleviated if our use of cars was limited by increased gasoline taxes--if gas is more expensive, we will use less of it and, as a beneficial by-product, improve the environment. What do you think of this proposal and what theory would support your position? Are there injustices built into such measures? What about the possibility that the US auto industry, encouraged by its partial owner, the US government, will no longer produce large...
Healthy People goals serve as guidelines in addressing health issues in our society. We have made progress, at the same time, we have developed new issues to address. One of these aspects is within the realm of CAM therapies. How do we make considerations in a world that is ever changing? What should our primary focus for 2030 look like? Do we look to technology, or do we look to human interaction?
In recent times, we have seen numerous example of people around the world expressing their voices in opposition to proposed changes to society (Les Gilets Jaune in France, university students in Hong Kong) and in support of others (Racial equality in the wake of the George Floyd killing in the US; Extinction rebellion in favour of global action on climate change). And yet, many have warned about a retreat from democracy that is occurring in many places internationally, including Hong...
Consider why persons with disabilities are considered a vulnerable population. Share with others experiences you may have had with individuals born with a physical ailment, children or adults with cognitive delays, people who may have suffered traumatic brain injury (i.e., possibly due to an accident, effects from war, etc.). What have you learned about challenges that impact their lives, that you may not have considered without this personal experience? Research programs that exist (America, or globally) to better integrate persons...
