Happiness is the state of feeling or showing pleasure or contentment. Happiness is often known by another name in positive psychology research: subjective well-being.
Diener identifies five factors that contribute to happiness: social relationships, temperament/adaptation, money, society and culture, and positive thinking styles. Happy people have strong social relationships.
What makes me happy is, when I am able to achieve my short term goals, when I see my family happy, when I feel content with what I am doing in life. So, for me Happiness is more of a stable state than a permanent state. To be satisfied with life, in a good mood, feeling positive emotions, feeling enjoyment etc is important in life. Life should be lived like that.
According to Layard, Clark and Senik (2012), Some of the important external factors include income, work, community and governance, and values and religion. More "personal" factors include mental and physical health, family experience, education, gender, and age. Many of these factors have a two-way interaction with happiness - physical health may improve happiness, while happiness improves physical health.
Scientific evidence suggests that being happy may have major benefits for your health. For starters, being happy promotes a healthy lifestyle. It may also help combat stress, boost your immune system, protect your heart and reduce pain. What's more, it may even increase your life expectancy.
If we talk about individual differences in perspective on emotions, A self-schema model of emotion is presented as a means of integrating more fully this individual differences perspective with a theory of emotion. In this model, self-schema content provides the basis for individual differences in underlying core themes and self-evaluative beliefs. The model describes how self-schema content distinctions across individuals may have a differential impact on the initial processing of an event, evaluation of this event with respect to the self, and emotional and behavioral output.
