Following are the steps of rational decision making:

a. The first step is to identify the problem, as this is the most important step which will determine the successful application of the further steps.

b. Build decision criteria with the information available. The decision criteria have to be rational and based on the possibility of the information available.

c. Each of the decision criteria needs to be assigned a certain weight, which will be based on the importance of the decision cities.

d. Evaluate all the possible alternative solutions available based on the developed weighted criteria.

e. selection of the best possible alternative based on the weighted decision criteria evaluation.

In a given context, this will help in creating the business communication more contextual as the while writing a report or making the presentation the selection of the issues to be presented would be meaningful. The process of reaching the conclusions based on the evaluation of the different decision variables and the exploration of different solutions will make the report or presentation very strong to justify the business report.
