A mass balance equation compares all forms of one mass to all forms of another for example
Ag2CO3 ---------> 2Ag^+ + CO3^2-
CO3^2- + H2O ---------> HCO3^-
HCO3^- + H2O ---------> H2CO3

Note that CO3^2- continues to react with water, Ag^+ does not

Since 2 mol of Ag form for each species of CO3, CO3 needs to be multipled by 2 in order to achieve equal ratios

Final Equation is a summation of Ag species on the left and a summation of CO3 species on the right.

[Ag^+] = 2([CO3^2-] + [HCO3^-] + [H2CO3]
