Design an experiment that shows that genes affect behaviors
In evolutionary psychology, one pervasive assumption is that how we act is affected by the genes we carry. Does that have good concrete evidence? Are our biological results predetermined? The most intriguing findings have come from twin studies on this issue.
The study of identical twins reared apart is a natural experiment where two individuals with exactly the same genes grow up in different environments. If they turn out to be similar, then the similarity can be attributed to genotype.
One can find similarities between twins when they were reunited for the first time after being separated from birth. Many of the pairs dressed similarly or had the same haircut, or glasses. They described remarkable similarities in hobbies and interests. One pair reported that they were the only ones in their neighborhood to construct a circular bench around a tree in their backyard.
We do have to accept that identical twins are a special case whose significance to ordinary people's actions is questionable. The problem is that several genes affect many different characteristics. If six genes are involved, identical twins would be the same, as they have all six genes.
This wrinkle (known as epistasis) may help explain why it is so difficult to establish a biochemical causation chain between specific genes and complex human behaviors, although researchers have made heroic efforts to account for various traits, such as sensation seeking as a function of dopamine receptors, and researched various candidate genes to account for criminal violence.
design a true experiment investigating the extent to which neighborhood factors lead to voting behaviors. You can feel free to further specify the independent and dependent variables as you elaborate on your experimental design. Be sure to explain how your true experiment incorporated the vital components you describe above.
Normally tumor suppressor genes inhibit the cell cycle. How do mutations in these genes affect the function of the encoded proteins and the cell cycle? Be specific.
Design an experiment to determine a robust design for the potato
chips bag, in order to reduce the number of broken chips in the bag
or even avoid breaking any chips at all.
Suppose you are the designer of potato chip bags. One thing customers care about is the number of broken chips in the bag. They prefer no broken chips. As the bag designer, what are the controllable factors and noise factors you can think of that may affect...
In about one page, discuss two critical value differences that frequently affect ethical behaviors when working in different cultures (Hint: Define critical values and ethical behaviors- citations here, discuss how values affect behavior, and answer the rest of the questions, including examples.)
Which one of the statements below are/is true about the way genes and nutrients can affect each other? (select all that apply) Select one or more: a. Nutrigenomics studies the way in which nutrients affect gene expression b. Nutrients can regulate - increase or decrease - expression of certain genes. c. Nutrigenetics is a study of the ways in which our genes impact our ability to utilize nutrients . d. Genes can affect our ability to consume certain nutrients. e....
Two genes (B and C) are transcription factors that affect the expression of gene A. The protein product of gene B allows gene A to be transcribed while the protein product of gene C doubles the rate of transcription of gene A. How does the expression of gene A differ between two individuals with the following genotypes? Assume lower case alleles produce non-functional proteins and each gene shows complete dominance. Individual 1: AA : BB : Cc Individual 2: AA...
explain why health insurance coverage might affect risky health behaviors such as smoking and drinking.
How would you report illegal and/or unsafe activities and behaviors that affect health, safety and welfare of others to proper authorities? Why is this important?
