Non defensive is when you don't take an extremely hostile approach to defending oneself from any form of criticism.

So, a non-defensive response in this case would be:

-By first and foremost listening to the entire criticism with the utmost patience

-then, second, by asking your boss to clearly state what issue the client had with the project management in particular.

- after an answer from the boss, assessing your fault, and then answering ones boss with an apology and an effort to do better, but also affirming the positive points of your project management so that one is not taken for granted.
