Leaders can be either task oriented or people oriented. Task oriented leaders are autocratic in nature. They only focus on the outcome and productivity of the resources including human resources and they are nowhere interested in building relationships with the team members. People oriented leaders acquire the behaviour that is opposite to the task oriented leader. They are democratic in nature and they are interested in building relationships and believe that mere completion of the task will not motivate the employees; they need to get connected with each other. Democratic leaders believe in creating a supporting environment for their team members.

Answer 1:

An example of a leader whose behaviour is task oriented is Martha Stewart who is a business magnate, author, and magazine publisher and she is so focused on her work that she never allows grapevine among her subordinates. An example of a leader whose behaviour is people oriented is Gail Kelly who favours participative forms of leadership, where leaders are prepared to listen to employees and consider new ideas and solutions.

Answer 2:

Limitations of authoritarian decision making is that the subordinates does not get enough space to put up their ideas for their own job which results into the demotivation of the employees and their productivity also decreases. Such employees develop a hatred for their superiors and try to develop conflicts in the workplace. This disrupts the normal working of an organisation. Authoritarian style is more effective in the situation where employees are less skilled and they continuously need guidance from their superiors. This situation generally arises when a new team is formed for the accomplishment of new project.
