Here some examples are
first one is LZ77
second one is Sequitur
Third one is Arithmetic coding
Forth one is HuffMan code
not only these many algorithms are there for compression for data
Pros:
for compressing the data it decrease the size of the data so then we can store whole data in less memory and as well as data transfer also increase because less size.
cons:
while compress the data some data can be loss and sometimes data quality also decrease for the like video
