Explain the goals of therapy from the psychoanalytic perspective and strategies.
The psychoanalytical theory was established by Sigmund Freud. It says that childhood experiences remain in the unconscious mind and it has an effect on the development of one's personality in the future.
He divided the mind into three components id. ego, and superego, where id represents instincts, the ego represents reality, and superego represents morality.
The psychoanalytical theory focuses on studying the unconscious mind of the person because the present traits are the result of childhood experiences, unconscious feelings, unresolved issues during development, repressed trauma, and thoughts that are present in the unconscious mind and they are responsible for mental illness or personality traits.
The strategy used is provoking an emotional response by overcoming the defense mechanism and encounter the past intriguing and stressful events and dreams the psychoanalyst gain insights into the client’s mind read and analyze his behavior and understand the unconscious forces that are influencing on his behavior, relationship, and self.
The goal of psychoanalytic therapy is to cope with the problem if a similar problem arises instead of falling on unhealthy defenses; it created awareness to recognize our feelings to deal with it constructively.
This method is used looking at the severity of the problem.
The critics of the theory are that the dreams thoughts and feelings are interpreted by the therapist it depends upon how he looks at those feelings emotions and thoughts, two different therapists can analyze the symptoms in two different ways.
