3) Laboratory procedure for hydrolysis of disaccharides:

Obtain 3 clean test tube and label them A, B & C. In test tube A and B take 2 ml of Sucrose. In test tube C take 2 ml of distilled water. In test tube A and C add 20 drops of HCl and in test tube B add 20 drops of distilled water. Keep all the 3 test tubes in a boiling water for 4 minutes. After 4 minutes take it and test the solution in all the 3 test tubes for reducing sugar. Record the results obtained and clean and replace the articles.

C12H22O11  + H2O + H+ --> C6H12O​6 + C6H12O​6 Sucrose Glucose Fructose

Same for Maltose and Lactose. Maltose give 2 Glucose and Lactose give 1 Glucose and 1 galactose.
