Late one Friday evening at my last job, a client asked about the project we were working on for them with an urgent issue. Usually my boss handles all customer communication directly, but he left for the weekend already. I described the scenario to the customer, saying that although I may not understand the precise response to the issue, I also worked on the project and could assist. That was good enough for the customer, and while it was true that I didn't get the answer right away, we were able to work through it together quite quickly, and the customer got off the call assured they wouldn't have to worry about the issue over the weekend. I also gave my boss a note about the call so he could check with the client on Monday morning's return.
