Ringworm is a skin disease that is actually caused by a fungus and not a worm, so that is misnomer about ringworm. It affects both animal and humans. First it affects the area where it grows and appear red, after that it spears to the other part of the body as well and affect that also. There are three types of fungi that cause ringworm, one is microsporum, Second is trichophyton and third is epidermophyton. People who own cats are prone to this infection because cats get this infection very frequently and gets passed to the human when touches the cat. Topical medications such as antifungal cream, oils, spray are used to treat the ringworm. Skin medications usually treat ringworm in 2-3 weeks.
